I wrote this recipe for a Buffalo Wing Style Hot Dog to help out good guy Brett Taylor during his annual fundraiser for Make a Wish, where he will be eating nothing but hot dogs for 2 days for your donations. That said, this hot dog is more than just a forced amalgamation of two comfort food classics, it’s serious food good. Swap the dog for a precooked chicken sausage and suddenly you may not feel so bad about having 4. Let’s eat!
Buffalo Style Hot Dog
It's a hot dog flavored like a chicken wing
- 4 hot dogs (chicken sausage is a chef kiss sub here)
- 1 cup buffalo sauce or hot sauce
- 1/4 cup butter
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup blue cheese
- 1 cup ranch flavored tortilla chips (yeah, you know the ones)
- 4 brat buns (youll want the heft)
- 1/2 cup pickled jalapenos
Prepare the hot dog however you like them. Personally, I made 6 slits in them, grill them hot and fast, and make sure it's just shy of burnt.
As dogs cook, lightly toast buns on the grill (or oven or whatever). Also, combine hot sauce, butter, and garlic and microwave on high for 1 minute (covered, unless you want a crime scene in your microwave). Let sit.
Make some dogs! I would go in this order: bun, dog, sauce, cheese, jalapenos, crushed chips. A side of buffalo sauce for dipping is a good idea. Add on other condiments (ranch, mustard, etc) as you feel so inclined!
